Orders Management
The EMR Glossary explains a number of EMR specific terms.
Summary
The Orders Management feature available from the Home Nav Bar toolbar presents a filtered list of physician's orders for you to work with. The list can be filtered on several factors to maximize utility for different users and purposes. Once the requested list is displayed, each individual order can be opened to update the status and perform certain specialized functions. Reports and images can be scanned into the patient's record and case management notes and ticklers can be created.
Physician's orders allow you to keep track of:
Medications, administered and dispensed.
Medication leaflets
Discharge instructions
Follow-up visits
Work restrictions
Lab work
Radiology
Therapy
Referrals
While Orders Management includes all orders, Net Health Employee Health and Occupational Medicine also has a separate Authorizations Management feature specifically for working with referrals and other orders that require authorization.
An order record can be created and viewed by any of several methods. Read the topic on Visit Orders to learn more about order records.
There are three broad uses for Orders Management.
A clinician will use this feature for keeping track of the status of activities such as entering the results for completed lab orders. It can also be used to notify the provider that an order has been completed and that results are available for review.
The provider can use this feature to view just those orders that have been flagged as being ready for review, and then mark them as complete.
Someone who fulfills orders such as an x-ray technician can look to see orders waiting to be performed.
The discharge nurse can use Orders Management for handling orders such as scheduling follow-up appointments and printing patient instructions, however, this function is probably best handled from the visit record which displays only orders for the current visit.
