Incident Visit Overview

If you haven't already done so, please read the Incident Record Overview before completing this setup topic.

Summary

Incident (injury) visits are similar to any other type of visit in that they capture the basic information about the purpose of the visit, who saw the patient, what services were provided, etc. They differ, however, in that the incident visit record provides the ability to capture additional information -- such as the patient's statement of what happened, the work status, work restrictions, etc. -- that is not relevant to non-incident types of visits.

Incident visits are linked to an incident record. Each time the employee comes into your department or clinic, the program will prompt you to link the initial or follow-up visit to the appropriate incident record.

The key to logging injury visits is to enter the select the correct Visit Category. There are separate Visit Categories for new visits and for follow-up visits. An initial injury visit will require you to create a new incident. A follow-up visit will require you to link the visit to an existing incident. Depending on the services offered by your clinic, you may have both types of Visit Category for both Workers' Comp and for Urgent Care visits. The topics on logging visits for Workers' Comp and Urgent Care will give you the details on selecting the correct Visit Category.

Worker's Comp visits allow you to print the Work Status Summary report which documents the visit and includes certain details of the injury taken from the incident record. This report is designed to be sent to a Workers' Comp patients' employer.
